Charles Baudelaire, Correspondances
La Nature est un temple où de vivants piliers
Laissent parfois sortir de confuses paroles;

Nature is a temple where living pillars
Let sometimes emerge confused words;
Man passes there through forests of symbols
Who watch him with familiar gazes.

As long echoes that through distance blend
In a dark and profound unity,
Vast as night and vast as light,
So perfumes, colors, and sounds correspond.

There are perfumes as fresh as children's flesh,
Soft as oboes, green as prairies,
- And others, corrupt, rich, and triumphant,

Having expansiveness of infinite matters,
Such as amber, musk, benzoin, and incense
Who chant the transport of the spirit and the senses.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, West-östlicher Divan
"Wer sich selbst und andre kennt,
Wird auch hier erkennen:
Orient und Okzident
Sind nicht mehr zu trennen.

Sinnig zwischen beiden Welten
Sich zu wiegen, laß ich gelten;
Also zwischen Ost und Westen
Sich bewegen, sei's zum besten!"
"Qui se connaît soi-même et l'autre,
Reconnaîtra aussi ceci:
L'Orient et l'Occident
ne peuvent plus être séparés.

Heureusement entre ces deux mondes
Se bercer, je le veux bien ;
Donc aussi entre l'Est et l'Ouest
Se mouvoir, puisse cela profiter!"
"Who knows oneself and the other,
will recognize also here:
Orient and Occident
Can not be separated any more.

Fortunately between both worlds
To weigh, I let myself ;
Thus between East and West
Evolve, may this be for the best!"
Ruyard Kipling, Ballad of East and West.  Too often we hear the first verse: "East and West shall never meet", but one should not forget the following verses to get the true meaning ...

Oh, East is East, and West is West, and ne'er the twain shall meet,
Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God's great Judgment Seat;
But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,
When two strong men stand face to face, tho' they come from the ends of the earth!

Divan "has a long and spectacularly variegated semantic history" as the company Loq-Man Translations put it. "It started out as Persian devan, which originally meant 'small book.' This came to be used specifically for 'account book,' and eventually for 'accountant's office.' From this its application broadened out to cover various official chambers and the bodies which occupied them, such as tax offices, customs collectors, courts, and councils of state. And finally it developed to 'long seat,' of the sort which lined the walls of such Oriental chambers. The word carried these meanings with it via Arabic diwan and Turkish divan into European languages, and English acquired most of them as a package deal from French divan or Italian devano (it did not, however, include the 'customs' sense which survives in French douane, Italian dogana, Spanish aduana, etc)".
Biodiversity - Biological Diversity or Biodiversity is "The variety of life in all its forms, levels and combinations. Includes ecosystem diversity, species diversity, and genetic diversity (IUCN, UNEP and WWF, 1991)" - More elaborate definitions see here.
Biodivan - The evolution of the word Divan is quite spectacular in its variety, more spectacular is the evolution of species, ecosystems and genes of Nature, i.e. Biodiversity.  Biodivan is the encounter of these two words and its meaning can cross over both varieties.
